Why we scaled opensource

Believe me when I tell you that building a seamless real-time communication platform with all components in it like voice, chat, presence, call routing, voice recording, etc. is not easy.

Combining open source

Especially when you only want the best of the best. That’s where we decided some years ago to combine the best of all available mostly open source components into a powerful, reliable and scalable VoIP platform solution. You could do this by yourself, but I must warn you, this requires high-end developers operating in an excellent team. I am proud to tell you that we have these highly skilled developers in our team.

We ended up with our multi-tenant platform called Compass that is now being used by ten thousand users on a daily basis. The system is known by many users as the cloud PBX with the easy to use drag-and-drop interface to build advanced dial plans in a matter of seconds. But wait, there is more. There is a philosophy behind the system that I want to share with you.

One size fits all?

Multitenancy tends to ‘one size fits all’. For the basics of telephony and messaging this will do, but there is an area where businesses require more specific solutions. Therefore we made a strategic decision about 2 years ago that really differentiates us from our main competitors. As we have our origin in the open source mindset, we decided to make our platform open on the users’ side as well. Our vision in this perspective is that all features should be available through APIs. We are not there yet, but we are steadily moving forward.

Build it

Because of this strategic decision a new environment was created where you can build your own apps and solutions, based on our steady and reliable platform. Best practices are the Doctors app by VTEL and the Clair collaboration suite by Capgemini.
